Install Oracle Install Grid Control 11gR1 on Vmware with Windows 7 64-bit as host OS and Linux as guest(Part 14 of series, Install Grid Control 11gR1)

Unto the devotee, the Naam is an article of daily use. The minds of the humble Saints are at peace. The Name of the Lord is the Support of His servants. By the Name of the Lord, millions have been saved. The Saints chant the Praises of the Lord, day and night. Har, Har — the Lord’s Name — the Holy use it as their healing medicine. The Lord’s Name is the treasure of the Lord’s servant. The Supreme Lord God has blessed His humble servant with this gift. Mind and body are imbued with
ecstasy in the Love of the One Lord. O Nanak, careful and discerning understanding is the way of the Lord’s humble servant.

After you download the Grid Control from the Oracle's Website, extract all the part in one directory, otherwise you will get an error:

"OUI-10133:Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Linux available for Installation in this staging area."

Now, execute the installer from the directory where you extracted all the files as:

cd /home/oracle/software/grid_11gr1
./runInstaller

Unclick "I wish receive security updates via My Oracle Support"

Now open ports of your router and connect to the grid control.

I would recommend to apply at least the minimum patches that oracle recommends on top of this install i.e. 9659446 and 9676134

Thats it !

Stopping and starting grid control 11gR1

Start Grid Control 11gR1 as:

1. Start database
. oraenv
gc
sqlplus / as sysdba
startup
exit

2. Start listener
lsnrctl start

3 Start OMS

The following command will start the entire oms stack. This command is smart enough to find what is required to start the entire stack e.g. if wls is not up it will start it up and same with other componets.

. oarenv
oms11g
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start oms

4. Start agent:
. oraenv
agent11g
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start agent

Output is as:

emctl stop oms

  1. Hello Gurpartap,

I'm installing Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Release 1 on SUSE Linux 10 and facing the "OUI-10133:Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Linux available for Installation in this staging area." problem. Installation packages were downloaded from "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/linuxx8664soft-085949.html". As you mentioned in blog that all three zip files should be extracted in one directory. All three unzipped folders both contain folder "stage" and contents thereof are different. What should I do, overwrite it or? Thanks in advance.

    Guangming Duan

  2. Hi Guangming,

The contents of all the files are different. When you unzip it will unzip and will not overwrite the old content. Now psu 3 is available for grid control 11g, don't forget to apply it after install.

Have fun and also don't forget to enjoy the power of naam !

  3. Hello Gurpartap,

  4. Hello Guangming,

Good to know that it worked. Now enjoy the monitoring with grid control.

Grid Control monitors the targets and 11g is much better than older versions, also suports exadata monitoring and is very good at online performance monitoring.

As are the grid control targets (like databases, application servers, exadata hardware, etc), similarly we are the targets of the monitoring system of God which is the best. His two agents(or angles) named "Chit" and "Gupt", are sitting on our shoulders. They keep writing what we do (Chit does writing part) and Gupt(Gupt writes what we think) and reports back and when we die these reports are checked and as per reports we are punshied or rewarded. The name of the person deciding all this after reading these reports is called "Yumraj". None is out of this system except the people who do simran(meditate) in the name God. For the people who meditate in the name of God "Yumraj" stands up and bows in front of them.

All the reports are deleted without reading for the people who do simaran (meditate in the name of God).

That is why people who do simaran are not afraid of death.

But to see all that truth while one is living, one has to do simran (meditate) in name of God by the grace of God. That is the only method to see this truth while living.

Have fun and enjoy Enterprise Manager Grid Control and try to feel the monitoring system of God and pray for me as well to do
    more and more simran.

    Regards

  5. Hello Gurpartap,

I'm not very familiar with Indian Religion. But your sermon is quite attractable. I like the philosophy thereof. Your surname is Singh, let me guess, you are a Sikhist? If I'm wrong, please forgive my offense.

    Best Regards,
    Guangming Duan

  6. Hi Guangming

Yes, your guess is correct, I am a Sikh by religion.

Religion is just a way to be one with GOD. To whichever religion someone belongs to, the truth remains the same. e.g. DEATH. It's an absolute truth for everyone may be a human or a non human. When the soul in the body leaves, we say that body as DEAD. Then few questions, what is a soul, from where it comes and where it goes.....:) Then many other questions arise.

Don't believe in anything till you yourself experience it or see it.

To have the replies of all the questions while living in this human body one way I know of is to Pray God and do meditation in the name of
    one Lord.

If you know of some other way just do it and explore it. It's a great feeling to feel and experince the truth (Remember- Only God himself is truth) while living and cannot be expressed (Like as asking a mute person to tell the taste of sweet).

Regards and have fun with exploring the truth !

  7. HI Gurpartap - I install grid control and has discover must of the targets but can not configure the database and the instance I get the following error.

Failed to connect to the database: Connection failure may be due to a slow network, or to the presence of an intervening firewall.

  8. Hi Frank,

I have seen this error. Are you using grid control on VMWARE and if so how many machines you have been running. I saw this error when my network card was being heavily used. It happened when I was running 3 nodes primay RAC 11gR2, Goldengate replication machine, Another 2 node RAC 10gR2 and Grid Control Machine. Reduce the no. of machines being run and try again. If you are on the corporate network check with networking team.

If its firewall then open the the ports that you are connecting to.

    Good Luck !

  9. Hi Gurpartap -- i was trying to install the Oracle 11g Grid control Oracle Virtualbox and i was installed OEL 5.5 and applyed the patch using yum install java-1.6.....openjdk-devel and using use java installed the Oracle Weblogic Server 10.3.2. At this point everything looks good, after i had starting to install Grid control 11.1.0.1, it went fine upto installation and failed during OMS configuration with error OMSCA-ERR:Securing of OMS failed. As per your blog i understand this error will come only if we install Weblogic server 10.3.3, but i had installed 10.3.2 still i got this error. I had tried couple of times still getting the same error. Do you have any idea? Appreciate your input on this topic.
